Tony Dreyfuss, Metropolis Coffee Company – Metropolis opened in Edgewater in 2003 with a storefront cafe and small in-house roasterie. Today, Metropolis has 55 employees and roasts over one million pounds of coffee a year. The company recently moved to a new facility to meet steadily increasing demand.
Helen Cameron, Uncommon Ground – Helen and her husband, Michael, are trailblazers in the local food movement and recognized leaders in sustainability in the restaurant industry. Uncommon Ground on Devon opened in 2007 and is home to the first Certified Organic Rooftop Farm in the country. In 2015, the farm produced over 1500 pounds of food in 800 square feet of tillable soil.
Jenny Yang, Phoenix Bean Tofu – Since purchasing Phoenix Bean tofu in 2006, Jenny Yang quadrupled revenue and expanded distribution. By the end of 2016, she will have invested $3 million in business expansion projected to meet increased demand.
Angela Valavanis, Creative Coworking – Five years ago, Angela founded Creative Coworking, a welcoming shared working space and art gallery in Evanston. It now serves over 100 monthly users and showcases the work of 50 local artists. Her second location will be located at the historic Colvin House on Sheridan, just off of Thorndale Beach in Edgewater.
Steve Bertrand, WGN Radio – For 30 years, Steve has been a key voice on WGN radio. He is the host of The Business Lunch on the radio station and also works as the midday new anchor. He has gained a national reputation for interviewing the country’s top authors and has been featured on ABC’s Nightline.
Light breakfast and coffee will be served by Whole Foods Market Edgewater – Chicago and Metropolis Coffee.
